Recently, at the 14th International Genomics Conference (icg14) held in Shenzhen, the MGI New Product Launch attracted wide attention from the industry. After the conference, more than a dozen experts and senior experts from academia and industry accepted it. In an interview with MGI, they are highly affirmed by the development of MGI in recent years, and they are full of confidence in the future cooperation with MGI and the industrial application of future genomics. In this article, we have compiled the views of the six guests in the academic community and shared them with you.

Whole genome sequencing is a great opportunity
Professor David Smith, Mayo Clinic, USA
David Smith from Mayo Clinic Center
I was the first person to bring the sequencing technology to the mayo clinic and see the astronomical advancement since then. Sequence output increase 100 thousand fold since that initiation.
I have worked with Rade and other people in CG, I’m doing a variety of cancer research on the MGI platform and look forward to using MGI's more advanced platform in the future.
For MGI,I think they should focus on whole genome sequencing, That’s a big game changer, and they have a good chance of capturing a good performance of the market.
I look forward to MGI’s ability to lead the world in instrument manufacturing.
National Center for Clinical Research of Nervous System Diseases
Professor Li Wei
From the beginning of the sequencing technology to the present, I basically experienced the whole process.Sequencing technology is very helpful for scientific research, especially in new ways to discover new drug targets and study the mechanism of disease development, but there is still a long way to go before it can directly have a major impact on the clinic.
I am still looking forward to the sequencer made by MGI. Today, China's manufacturing industry has been leading the world in many fields. I hope that MGI will lead the world in instrument manufacturing. The advantages of the sequencer compared to similar products, and the quality and standard of the peer-reviewed article, which we would very much like to see.
Declining price reduction will promote public health and public health
Director, National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Thailand
Dr. Sissades TONGSIMA
Sequence technology has been around for quite some times. Great potential for utilizing this technology, yet the time was not right, due to the expensive price barrier. Last year the price was not that expensive anymore. and it's keep on dropping, due to highly competitive market. The affordable price of NGS rendered us to reconsider if the affordable sequencing service could be used in public health and thus help our government decide that population genomics in Thailand is possible and should be done to transform medicine in Thailand.
I wish MGI will become the key player in a sequencing platform in near the future. Personally, I believe that MGI has a chance to do it. MGI takes this matter seriously as they continually improve and launch new products every year.
With this fierce competition, the price of NGS sequencing will drop dramatically, perhaps like the keynote speaker mentioned 1000 Yuens per WGS. This will surely be beneficial to the public health.
Future genome sequencing will be as popular as blood glucose
School of Biological Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology
Professor Du Hongli
At present, many researchers in various institutions have the need for sequencing. Through cooperation with MGI Zhizhi, we have a sequencer in our laboratory, and the effect is quite good. Then we will have more sequencing research.
The development of sequencing technology has begun to affect all aspects of our lives. Life health, environment, and food are all closely related to sequencing technology.Among them, the most closely related to each of us is the application of genetic testing in disease risk, disease diagnosis and medication. It allows us to know the risks of some diseases in advance, so that we can intervene early; we can also accurately diagnose and use the disease to improve the treatment and efficiency of the disease. In the future, if we can study hundreds of millions of people's genomes and diseases, I believe that the risk assessment and diagnosis and treatment of many diseases will be more accurate. At that time, genome sequencing is as common as routine physical examination and blood glucose measurement. Every child is born. A genome can be measured as a commonly used indicator in hospitals, providing a reference for everyone's future treatment and prevention of diseases.
I hope to have a small device to carry out on-site analysis of forensic DNA
Uppsala University, Sweden
Professor Marie Allen (Professor Marie Allen)
Looking back in a longer perspective, sequencing technology has changed a lot. It's going much faster and we're getting much more data out now. I have gotten samples analyzed at MGI here in China.
I haven’t used any MGI instruments yet. but I would like to have my own instrument.
In the future, I would like to see a very small instrument.
Since I'm working with forensic DNA analysis, it would be great to take an instrument out to the crime scene. Then, a first DNA analysis can be performed already while doing the crime scene investigation.
Looking forward to MGI's representation of China in the field of biology to the world
Wen Shaoqing, Associate Professor Fudan University
The development of life science in the future is very fast in all directions. I hope that domestically produced equipment companies like MGI are getting better and better, and I look forward to more Chinese people on this runway.I hope that MGI, like its name, will become bigger and stronger in the field of biology to represent China and go global.
