MGI Helps Combat the Omicron Wave in Hong Kong

Release date:2022-02-18Writer:MGIViews:2015Share

In recent weeks Hong Kong has been undergoing the fifth wave of omicron variant that is posing huge pressure on the city's already overburdened healthcare system. In response, MGI rapidly delivered its high-efficiency lab automation systems, including MGISTP-7000 high-throughput automated sample transfer processing system, MGISP-NE384 high-throughput automated nucleic acid extractor, and MGISP-960 high-throughput automated sample preparation system, to support the local prevention and control efforts.

MGI engineers work non-stop to esure the smooth operation of the equipment.

In order to make the equipment start operation as soon as possible, MGI's engineer and after-sales service team worked around the clock 24/7 to complete the installation, debugging and commissioning of more than 50 units in only six days, to scale up Hong Kong's testing capacity to beyond 300,000 samples a day. "Despite all the heavy workload and pressure, we felt honored to contribute to Hong Kong's fight against the virus. We hope that the pandemic would end soon so that people could be reunited with their families as soon as possible." Said MGI Engineers.

MGI engineers spare no efforts to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We completed the installation of more than 50 automated systems for the first Huo-Yan Lab in six days. You can imagine the challenge. Sometimes, we had to work nonstop for 20 hours," said Zhao Chi, a young engineer from MGI who also supported the combats against COVID-19 in South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

As a new member in MGI, Xiao Wang has previously supported the responses to the outbreaks in Anhui Province, Guangxi Province and Shenzhen. Wang told Hong Kong Wen Wei Po that he received the assignment to support Hong Kong during the Spring Festival, and his team members signed up actively and left for Hong Kong as soon as possible. "We are responsible for equipment installation, debugging, and troubleshooting, and we work closely together to ensure 24-hour nucleic acid testing for COVID-19." Xiao Wang added.

Wei Sheng is a local employee of MGI Hong Kong, who joined MGI two years ago and has previously participated in the fight against COVID-19 at the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Gymnasium in Hong Kong. He is dedicated to his work since the outbreak in Hong Kong, "The work is demanding that we had to complete the debugging of more than 50 sets of automatic equipment. I barely spent any time with my girlfriend on the Valentine's Day." Said Wei with a shy smile. "The whole process is full of challenges, and the most difficult part is to coordinate with on-site personnel and multiple departments. However everyone has been very supportive and we all work hard together to overcome this as soon as possible."
